Farmstay & Hike

Over the last week I did a little farmstay in rural Korea. It was at a small family-run organic farm that grows chili peppers and sesame leaves and other vegetables. They also had two kids that were sometimes difficult to be around but still had lots of fun. They're actually people from Seoul but they decided to leave the city and run a farm.

Bus ride:

It was nice to see mountains again. I got there in the evening and we had pizza and beer.

The next day was picking peppers but first one of the kids gave me a little tour and took me to this stream:

Cold! But super clean.

About to go pick some peppers!!! Looking awesome in farmer gear with host sister (how old do you think she is?)

she is 10 :0

Took a drive into town to mail off a package of peppers. Another farm on a pretty day.

The farm owners had some family friends visit while I was there. It was fun and they were nice, but it was kind of sucky to share one bathroom among nine people. The dad in the visiting family had the gall to blow dry his hair in the bathroom after taking his time showering while I was desperately waiting outside to shower myself.

But we did go on a nice hike. A nearby mountain has a "sky bridge" and we took a slow easy hike up there. We picked some veggies to eat for lunch. Picking a tomato:

I accidentally killed three other unripe tomatoes in the process. I also picked a cucumber!

Small temple on the way up

There was some kind of festival going on at a big temple on the mountain to celebrate dead people. This one Buddhist monk chanted for about 2 hours straight.

Apparently standing under this waterfall will make you taller

host brother being silly. his parents told him not to get wet

unhappy children (and some adults)

The bridge!

Looking awkward on the bridge. My shorts kept sliding down cause they're big so I tucked in my shirt as a last resort. Very much looking like early 90's soccer mom in my Smithsonian whales of the world t-shirt and high-waist khaki shorts

At the big temple

This was crazy, the rock thing above is a boulder that's like 50 ft high! I'm not sure what supports it.
More work organizing sesame leaves. I think I mostly picked sesame leaves the whole 2 hours a day I was working there.
